Which Glass to Use Where

Shower partitions

8 mm toughened for framed screens; 10 mm for frameless doors and panels.

Office partitions and glass doors

10–12 mm toughened.

Balcony and staircase railings

12 mm toughened at a minimum; 13.52 mm laminated (two 6 mm sheets bonded with a 1.52 mm interlayer) where the drop is high, because laminated glass stays in place even if it breaks.

Facades and west-facing glazing

Double-glazed or performance glass to cut heat gain.

Toughened and laminated safety glass - Stylfixx

Toughened Glass and Safety Standards

Toughened glass is several times stronger than ordinary glass of the same thickness and breaks into small blunt pieces.

We specify safety glass that meets IS 2553 (Part 1), and heat-soaked toughened glass where the risk of a sudden breakage must be kept as low as possible.

Our Installation Process

1

Site measurement

Openings are measured with a laser after walls and floors are finished, because toughened glass cannot be cut or trimmed later.

2

Drawing and approval

You approve a drawing showing panel sizes, hardware positions, door swings and frosting.

3

Fabrication

Glass is cut, edge-polished and drilled, then toughened. This takes about 7–10 days.

4

Installation

Channels, patch fittings, hinges and spiders are anchored into the slab or wall, panels are set and aligned, and joints sealed with structural or weather silicone.

5

Checks and handover

We check alignment, door closing, locks and silicone joints, remove protective film and clean the glass.

Glass Glazing FAQs

Glass glazing work is the cutting, fitting and fixing of glass in buildings: windows, doors, partitions, railings, shower enclosures and facades. It includes the frames or hardware that hold the glass and the silicone that seals it.

In 2026, a balcony or staircase glass railing in Bangalore usually costs ₹1,200 to ₹3,000 per running foot installed. The price depends on glass type and thickness, the railing system (stainless steel, aluminium or concealed channel) and the handrail.

Yes, when it uses the right glass and fixing. Use at least 12 mm toughened glass, or laminated glass for higher drops, which stays in place even if cracked. The base channel or fittings must be anchored into the slab, and the railing height should follow National Building Code guidance.

Use 8 mm toughened glass for framed shower screens and 10 mm for frameless doors and fixed panels. Thinner glass flexes and puts more load on hinges.

In Bangalore, 12 mm clear toughened glass typically costs about ₹200 to ₹350 per sq ft for the glass alone in 2026, depending on size, edge work and holes. Installed with hardware, a frameless partition usually comes to ₹450 to ₹800 per sq ft.

An aluminium-framed office partition with 10 mm toughened glass usually costs ₹350 to ₹650 per sq ft installed, and a frameless 12 mm partition ₹450 to ₹800 per sq ft. Doors, locks and frosted film are priced separately.

Structural glazing fixes glass to a frame with structural silicone so no frame is visible from outside. A curtain wall is a complete non-load-bearing facade system of frames and panels hung on the building. Many curtain walls use structurally glazed panels.

Toughened glass is much stronger than ordinary glass and breaks into small blunt pieces, which suits partitions, doors and shower screens. Laminated glass holds together when broken, so it is the safer choice for railings at height, overhead glass and canopies.

Toughened glass is made to order after measurement, so fabrication takes about 7 to 10 days. Installation of a typical office partition or balcony railing then takes 1 to 3 days on site.

Squeegee shower glass after each use and clean weekly with a mild glass cleaner. Bangalore's borewell water leaves white scale quickly; a water-repellent glass coating applied after installation makes it much easier to keep clean.
